Guiding Principles


KRD’s programs are guided by following principles:

1.     Effecting fundamental change: KRD projects aim to change people’s lives so that they can become self sufficient by means of promoting small scale business, increasing agricultural production, improving access to credit and markets, enhancing workers skills and stimulating income generation.

2.     Reaching the needy: Activities must benefit the vulnerable community groups and support their efforts in achieving social and economic well being

3.     Involvement of Women: KRD projects must measure in advance the anticipated impact on women as well as encouraging their participation and access to project benefits.

4.     Participation: must ensure full community participation in all stages of project management i.e. from project design, implementation and evaluation of results.

5.     Sustainability: Must ensure project activities to be self-continuing and fostering self-reliance to encourage community to take over and initiate further efforts of their own.

6.     Addressing significant Problems: KRD recognizes that small-scale projects may represent efforts to develop new approaches for addressing significant problems.

7.     Environmental Awareness: Safeguard natural resources while making land more productive by adopting ecologically sound techniques.

Documentation and dissemination: KRD shall document positive stories, lessons learnt; success stores and case studies from Somalia such as success of peace building and community based natural resources management systems and celebrate these as examples of national achievement.    



KRD’s vision is to secure enhanced livelihood and food security for the poor communities and bring positive changes to the worsening humanitarian crisis situations in key areas of interventions through institutional capacity building and policy change for human development.       

Livelihood Support

The objective of this programme is to assist the community generate self- sustaining incomes through small enterprises. The Community Livelihood improvement activities include Planning and promoting income activities such as family farms, small scale farming and introduction of new farming methods and techniques.

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

The objective of this area of operation is to increase availability of clean water to the target communities through construction and rehabilitation of water sources, formation of water committees at district and village level, promote sanitation and hygiene.

Peace Building and Conflict Resolution

The organization, in a bid to bring peace and reconciliation in the region has mediated between two warring clans. The cause has been as a result of dispute over grazing land. All the stolen livestock has been returned to the respective owners and peaceful co-existence now exists among the clans.
