   Board of Directors: 


KRD is governed by its Board of Directors. The Board is the key policy making and governance body of the organization and works independently. It formulates and approves policies and organizational systems and evaluates the overall performance of KRD on periodic basis. The Board of Directors consists of 7 members (both male and female) and is headed by its Chairperson. These members include the Chairperson, the Secretary, the Treasurer and four ordinary members. KRD’s board of directors comprises of development professionals, intellectuals, academics, activists and media persons. The Executive Director of KRD serves the board as the secretary and ex-officio member. The Board works in the guidelines of the Board Policies Manual and it is based on the Policy Governance Model which gives the executive director the bulk of the responsibility for using the means to get to the ends. However, the board is ultimately responsible for governing the organization and holds legal responsibility for the organization and its operations. 


Board members are elected in an annual general meeting. The minimum number of Board members is 5 and their term of service is three years. A Board member can serve two successive three-year terms. The Board meets at least three times a year. It has five standing committees: Admin and Finance; Programme; Fund Raising, Audit; and Monitoring and Evaluation. The Board of KRD is accountable to: (a) The donors, for ensuring funds donated are used effectively in pursuit of the organization’s objectives; (b) The beneficiaries, for design and implementation of effective projects that make a real difference in the areas where we operate; (c) The Government of Somalia, for ensuring that we comply with all relevant requirements; and (d) KRD staff, for their welfare and safety. Management: KRD is led by an Executive Director who is the formal head of the organization. The Executive Director reports to the Chairperson of the Board of Directors and is responsible for the overall management of the organization. The Executive Director is supported by the Program Manager and team of coordinators/managers of different sections/programs of the organization and they jointly form the management structure for the organization. Members: KRD’s membership is open to individuals from the public who have demonstrated an interest in philanthropy, altruism, charity work and development. To become a member, you need to be proposed and seconded by two other members.

Livelihood Support

The objective of this programme is to assist the community generate self- sustaining incomes through small enterprises. The Community Livelihood improvement activities include Planning and promoting income activities such as family farms, small scale farming and introduction of new farming methods and techniques.

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

The objective of this area of operation is to increase availability of clean water to the target communities through construction and rehabilitation of water sources, formation of water committees at district and village level, promote sanitation and hygiene.

Peace Building and Conflict Resolution

The organization, in a bid to bring peace and reconciliation in the region has mediated between two warring clans. The cause has been as a result of dispute over grazing land. All the stolen livestock has been returned to the respective owners and peaceful co-existence now exists among the clans.
