About KRD

The Founders and the Year of Establishment:


KRD was established by a group of young and energetic people who were highly motivated and committed for contributing their time, skills and energies for alleviating the plight of affected people and the development and empowerment of socially disadvantaged and vulnerable communities in Gedo region, Somalia by addressing poverty issues and gender based discriminations. KRD was established in the year 2011, when Somalia was gripped by a drought which killed many people. In response for the natural calamity, KRD started mobilizing communities, local authorities, business people, civil society organization to participate in the campaign of saving lives and livelihoods of the famine affected populations in Gedo region, Somalia. KRD is a registered body. It is registered with thejubaland state Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, under “Article No: 54 of Somalia Civil Society Law No: 37 of 02/06/173.The registration number is 001087. It is also registered with the offices of the Governor, Gedo region and the District Commissioner of Belet-Hawa district. 


KRD envisions a "poverty-free, empowered and democratic society which is guided by the values of equity, transparency, accountability, inclusion and respect”.

Livelihood Support

The objective of this programme is to assist the community generate self- sustaining incomes through small enterprises. The Community Livelihood improvement activities include Planning and promoting income activities such as family farms, small scale farming and introduction of new farming methods and techniques.

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

The objective of this area of operation is to increase availability of clean water to the target communities through construction and rehabilitation of water sources, formation of water committees at district and village level, promote sanitation and hygiene.

Peace Building and Conflict Resolution

The organization, in a bid to bring peace and reconciliation in the region has mediated between two warring clans. The cause has been as a result of dispute over grazing land. All the stolen livestock has been returned to the respective owners and peaceful co-existence now exists among the clans.
