About KRD
KRD was established in June 2011 by a group of young and professional elites who are highly motivated and Committed for contributing their time, skills and energies for alleviating the plight of affected people and the development and empowerment of socially disadvantaged and vulnerable communities in Gedo region, Somalia by addressing poverty issues and gender-based discriminations.
Initially, KRD was established to help provide short-term humanitarian assistance to the drought affected populations in Somalia, However, the organization reshaped its strategic focus on application for development program intended to strengthen local capacity to bring about durable solution for the marginalized pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities in Somalia.
KRD is an active local humanitarian organization dedicated to bring sustainable human development in the jubaland state of Somalia. Through its cooperation with key actors, KRD feeds, equips and guides the attitude of the community with awareness creation campaigns. KRD places special emphasis on investing and building the resilience of vulnerable pastoral and agro pastoral communities to help them cope with natural and man-made disasters.
The organizational age, geographical reach and local knowledge made it possible to gain outstanding experience to deliver effective, appropriate and timely responses to target communities. Over its life span, the organization has grown substantially in the number of projects implemented, areas covered, staff numbers and budgets managed.
Since its establishment, the organization through its work in emergency and development interventions has supported thousands of people, saved lives and provided opportunities for improved livelihoods. Also, it has achieved great development in its organizational capacity and management of programs. KRD is a registered body.
It is registered with the jubaland state Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, under “Article No: 54 of Somalia Civil Society Law No: 37 of 02/06/173. The registration number is 001087. It is also registered with the offices of the Governor, Gedo region and the District Commissioner of Belet-Hawa district.
Kaalmo is also registered under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Federalism and reconciliation of the federal government of Somalia through under Article 22, Para 1, 2, 3; Article 26 and Article 67 Para3 of the federal charter of Somalia in 2004, as well as the Article 7, Article 26 and Article 32 of the first constitution of Somalia in 1960KRD has extensive understanding of the socio-economic and cultural dynamics of the population in it is areas of operation.
KRD has geographical reach, experience in project implementation, and managements of funds. Moreover, KRD has good acceptance from the community, government and donors. It has been working for both pastoral, agro-pastoral, IDPs and host communities in Somalia since its establishment in June 2011.
with more than 11 – years of experience in delivering development, relief and rehabilitation assistance to the most under-privileged parts of Somalia and having gained a deep understanding of the population’s livelihoods and needs, KRD is very confident to successfully implement programs related to WASH, Livelihood, food security, Education, Protection, Health and nutrition as well as social and environmental programs.
Currently, KRD is implementing 6 projects and has more than 18 staff. KRD has the ability to provide expanded coverage, given the fact that it is community-focused and has a wide population reach, particularly the hard-to-reach rural communities.

Kaalmo works on the basis of people centered approach supported by the following key elements.
Collaborating with the poor and the disadvantaged members among the communities
We believe that the injustices can be eliminated by empowering the poor and the disadvantaged to help them claim their rights. Kaalmo will work with the grass roots to achieve its ambitions and learn the reality on the ground. Poverty, injustices and marginalization can be eliminated with the poor and disadvantaged taking charge of their lives to realize change.
Rights based approach
The basic of our work is to realize the voices of the poor and the disadvantaged are heard and respected, shielded and fulfilled. Kaalmo will also bring to the attention of other humanitarian actors in regards to the fulfilment of the poor and the disadvantaged.
Partnering and Networking
Kaalmo will forge relationship and partnership with international actors and donors to support its target groups. We will also work in close relationship with the poor, the vulnerable and the disadvantaged members of the communities. Partnership and Networking will support us access resources and reduce risks to our target communities.
